This year we face the 53rd edition of the Tolosa Choral Contest from October 28th to November 1st. As always, we do it with great enthusiasm and receiving the children’s contest with enthusiasm because since 2017 we had not had the opportunity to see the smallest of the Contest at the Leidor Theater.
This year we receive choirs from Estonia, Poland, Mexico, the United States, Latvia, Sweden, Ireland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Valencia that will compete in Polyphony and Folklore categories. Asturias, Catalonia, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Sweden will compete in the Children’s Contest.
As usual, the participating choirs will participate on a choral circuit through different towns in the Basque Country such as Beasain, Donostia, Getxo, Hondarribia, Lazkao, Mungia, Muskiz, Ordizia, Santurtzi, Urretxu and Zarautz. They will also perform in the towns of Borja (Zaragoza), Polanco and Astillero (Cantabria) and Zaragoza. Without forgetting the XXVII International Choral Cycle of Navarra in which they are also the protagonists traveling to 25 Navarran towns.
This year, as in previous editions, we will have an opening concert of the Contest that will take place in the Church of Santa Clara and will be performed by Stuttgart Kammerchor (Germany). The closing concert will be performed by the Americans Byu Singers. As a novelty on Monday, October 31, at the Church of Santa Clara, a concert by the Kup Taldea that will premiere works awarded in the Choral Works Composition Contest on the occasion of the Centenary of the International Society for Contemporary Music.
