Window onto ChinaAt the same time as the twenty-third Tolosa International Puppet Festival - Titirijai, a special exhibition will be held aimed at giving a detailed overview of the history and current situation of puppetry art in a specific country..
This year, the window will open onto Chinese puppetry art, with a wide-ranging exhibition of puppets from a variety of different theatres and private collections from all over both continental and island China. The exhibition, which has been designed by Simon Wong and Pik-sze Chan of the Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education Ltd. in Hong Kong, will include over 400 puppets, sets and implements, etc.
Accompanying performances for this Window onto China will be given by the Guandong Puppet Troupe (using rod puppets) the Quanzhou City Puppet Theatre (using the string technique) the Hunan Puppet and Shadow Art Troupe (using Chinese shadow art), the Fujian-Zhangzhou Puppet Show Troupe (using the glove technique) and the Song Song Song Children and Puppet Theatre, who will perform a contemporary play that is nevertheless strongly influenced by Chinese culture.
This Window onto China will be the first time in history that so many different high quality performances of Chinese Puppetry Art will have ever been given outside of China.
